Streamlining stable pipeline for successful degree and advanced degree programs requires the colleges to involve the community organizations working in STEM related fields as well as other stakeholders while formulating new programs. Colleges are a paramount factor in the development of the economy and formulation of development policies.The community organizations on the other hand are the actuators of the economy. The Department of Labor for instance has been a robust contributor in development of the pipeline for STEM employments. It has been the pertinent responsibility of the department to train and encourage more people to join STEM workforce. With an ever increasing demand for specialized skills, Community-based Job Training Grants have been developed to aid community colleges in producing tailor-made workforce. It is apt that individual working or venturing into STEM fields work with other parties to increase its popularity amongst their peers and the larger community. Personal interests in technology have been the core to different innovations that have been witnessed during this era. While at Illinois Institute of Technology, I believe that I can impose my influence and encourage members of my family and friends to join the STEM community. At the same time I will use the acquired skills coupled with my innovativeness to impact the current technology. With the guidance of my instructors and the motivation drawn from the STEM pipeline initiat ives, I believe that by the time I leave Illinois Institute of Technology I will have an imprint of my influence along my technological track.In conclusion, all stakeholders in STEM pipeline development should work hand in hand for the good of STEM fields of profession. Charlie Parker at Storyville Essay Charlie Parker at StoryvilleThe set by Charlie Parker, at Storyville is a perfect example of bop or bebop.It fits almost all of the criteria we use to define bop.These criteria include, but are not limited to: fast tempo, display of instrumental virtuosity, complex melodies and harmonies, an unresolved character, highly syncopated and masterful improvisations. These were all shown throughout this set.The compact disc I chose is actually a compilation of two different live sets 6 months apart.Both sets include Charlie Parker yet his accompaniment changes (see linear notes).Throughout this set it is obvious that Parker dominates.He can really make his horn sing.Even during the slow songs of this set the solos are packed full of notes.The tempo may be slow yet the soloist fills the spaces full of notes. Examples of these are Ill Walk Alone and Dont Blame Me.A song from this set I especially like is the song Cool Blues.It is very complex yet fun to listen to. I love to hear Parker play h is horn. He really is a master.This piece is in a 12 bar blues form.There is a short intro by Charlie Parker on the sax.Then Herb Pomeroy and Parker play once through the chorus.The trumpet and sax together here sound really fabulous.The two match each other with amazing accuracy.Following the chorus Charlie launches right into a solo.This solo shows Parkers command of his instrument. He is able to pack his solos full of information.He is double-timing through most of the set.He slides up and down pitches, is all over the range of his horn and uses a stop time to build tension near the end of his solo.With the end of Parkers solo, Pomeroy takes over and plays a solo on his trumpet.The notes Pomeroy plays strike me as intentional and deliberate.It seems that each note is very carefully placed and played.Following Pomeroy, Sir Charles Thompson plays a piano solo.After the piano solo Kenny Clarke trades 4s with Pomeroy and Parker.Following this is twice through the chorus and . . . the crowd goes wild.Along with the form, the instrumentation of this piece is also very representative of the era.Kenny Clarke on the drums keeps time on the ride cymbal while filling with his snare drum and toms.The Saxophone and trumpet being the leaders of the set are also representative of the instrumentation of the era.Near the end of the piece Clarke really struts his stuff while trading 4s with Parker and Pomeroy.He adds a complexity to this music.I like to hear the drummer getting his chance.Jimmy Woode on bass also follows the standards of the day.He walks his bass to add a swinging feeling to the whole quintet.Bop music of the late 40s and early 50s was an evolution of Jazz that I truly love.Swing is good for dancing and a lot of fun to listen to in that situation yet nothing compares to the solos of the Bop era.The criteria I have shown proves that this set is bop.This same criteria is what makes bop the best era of jazz. The complexity, the tempo, the amazing skill shown by bop musicians, and the proliferation of improvised solos all join together to make amazing music.

President Lincoln was entirely justified in limiting rights during the wartime situation to protect the nation. It was also necessary for him to increase the size of the federal army in order for the North to have any possibility of winning the war. Lincoln had to do all that he could to keep the Border States, each of which the Union could not afford to lose. Setting limits on the rights of individuals was unavoidable for President Lincoln, because Copperheads posed a significant threat to the Union. It is almost certain that the North would have lost the war if Lincoln did not improve the Union's army. The South had superior military trained personnel because most of the U.S. military that had been professionally trained seceded with the South. A number of notable military institutions were located in the South. The North only had a small "standing army" before the war. Congress was not in session at the time of crisis, so Lincoln himself requested 75, 000 men, most of which had never even held a gun. This large army needed training and supplies. Had Lincoln waited for the $2 million needed for military services to be appropriated, it may have been too late to successfully train such a large army. It was crucial that the Union did not lose any of the Border States. Martial Law had to be ordered in Maryland immediately, because the loss of Maryland would mean that the Union's capital, Washington D. C., would become enemy territory. If the line between the North and South shifted further north, the Union would lose many people, jobs, and railroad lines. President Lincoln needed Kentucky because it supplied much of the iron, gunpowder, and grain for the South. Slavery still existed in the Border States, which could be used to lure the Confederate States back. Lincoln's priority was to preserve the Union. Keeping Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and West Virginia may have made it possible. It was entirely necessary for Lincoln to limit the rights of individuals. Northerners who sympathized with the South, also called "Copperheads", openly attacked President Lincoln and the draft in newspapers, magazines, and their words. They often shipped goods to the South. Their actions may have posed a threat to the Union and could have lead to the loss of Border States. To prevent this, Lincoln arranged for "supervised" voting, and rightfully suspended Habeas Corpus and free speech. Those who threatened the North by outwardly speaking against the Union could be jailed immediately. In order to protect the nation, President Lincoln was entirely justified in suspending rights during the wartime situation. The North would have had no chance of victory over the Confederacy's superior military had Lincoln not supported our small, inexperienced army. It was also crucial that the President kept the slave-holding Border States to be able to lure the Confederate States back in, and more importantly, to protect Washington D. C., the capital of the Union. If Lincoln allowed the sympathizers to continue freely expressing their hate for the war, the "Copperheads" may have lead to many losses for the North, including the vital Border States.
